Cartonnage is an amazing technique. Making your own fabric box is a great idea! It is so fun and it makes a unique handmade gift! You can make your own keepsake boxes, cases and much more out of paperboard, fabric and glue with this lovely craft!! And your pieces will be sturdy as wood, but made with your favorite fabric!

This DIY cartonnage Kit comes with all pre cut paper (paperboard, poster board and kraft paper) you need to make your own pencil box with magnet closure, as shown in the pictures. The finished box will be 8 7/8" x 4 1/8"x 2 5/8", great for pencil, but you can use for another purpose as well! With this DIY kit there is no worries about cutting paper! Fabric and other contents showed in pictures are not included.

NEW: you can also add metal clasps to close your box (clasps are sold separately, check the "supplies" section of my shop). To see a video showing how to add the clasps click here.

ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS AVAILABLE! The instruction is a very clear PDF tutorial (eBook) with 134 pictures showing in details step by step to guide you through the whole process, no steps missing, no guessing! Inside the kit you will find the password and easy directions to download the instruction to your computer.

Basic cartonnage complementary content with videos you can see in my FREE online course Joy of Cartonnage.

To make the box you will need this kit, two coordinating fabrics (1 fat quarter each), glue, rotary cutter, cutting board, a small paint roller with tray, paint brush and masking tape. Cartonnage tools (spatula, acrylic spacers and corner tool) are required to have better finishing of your project, and you can find them in the tools section of the shop.

Pencil box

I haven't had a chance to make the second pencil box, but have completed the first kit. The instructions were clear and includes pictures and narrative. The first box was given to my husband. The second will be given to my mother. I'm excited to make it!

Great "Box with Lid" Project

While I have not actually made this box yet (looking for fabric) I have read through the instructions carefully and in detail. I purchased this kit because I wanted to learn how to make a box with a lid and magnetic closure. Like all instructions from Colorway Arts, they are detailed and provide great instruction. The illustrations are super helpful. Also a bonus, are the many tutorials provided online (You Tube) to help supplement your basic knowledge. I have purchased a number of kits and each have always had the correct pieces and website info for instructions. This craft has brought me hours of joy and provided unique, customized gifts for many of my friends. Highly recommend.

Great size!

You will find a million uses for this little box and not all of them will be for pencils. Claudia's clear instructions and high quality precision kit makes completing this project a joy. I made a mistake as I was constructing my box (didn't follow the instructions), and Claudia was responsive and generous in helping me with a solution.
